In short
An experimental toolbar has appeared in Chrome Canary that, when text is selected, offers the option to send it to Gemini, copy it, or share it. This feature makes the AI assistant accessible with a single click, without any extra steps.
Google continues to integrate its AI assistant, Gemini, directly into the Chrome browser. A new floating panel has been spotted in the Chrome Canary test version; it appears when text is highlighted on any web page.
The interface resembles the context menu from Android: a floating panel with four buttons hovers over the selected text:
Previously, the “Ask Gemini” feature was already available via the right-click context menu, but the new implementation brings it to the forefront. Now, to interact with the AI, you don’t need to open the menu—just select some text and click the pop-up button. This makes the interaction faster and more intuitive.
According to Windows Report, the panel still looks unfinished—indicating that it’s in an early stage of development. Google is gradually expanding Gemini’s presence in Chrome: the @gemini command and the AI Mode button (currently in testing) have already appeared in the toolbar.
If the feature makes it to the stable release, users will be able to ask Gemini follow-up questions without switching tabs or copying text manually.
